01 - Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Brush melted butter onto six evenly spaced circles, approximately 4 inches each, on the parchment paper.
03 - Sprinkle brown sugar or honey over each buttered area. Arrange apple slices in an overlapping single layer on top. Dust with cinnamon for a sweet version.
04 - Cut the puff pastry sheet into six circles, each slightly larger than the topping areas. Drape each pastry over the arranged toppings, tucking edges gently underneath.
05 - Brush the tops of each pastry circle with beaten egg and sprinkle lightly with salt.
06 - Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until puffed and deep golden brown.
07 - Remove from oven, cool for 2 minutes, then carefully invert each pastry onto a plate to showcase the caramelized topping.
08 - Serve warm as is, or accompany with whipped cream for sweet, or fresh herbs for savory variations.
